One of the most frequently asked questions we get is “What do we wear for our portraits?” Everyone’s style is different and there are so many choices out there that it’s hard to be really specific. The clothing you choose will have a huge impact on the look of your portraits so it’s very important that you take the time to choose something that represents who you are and how you would like the world to see you. We want you to look fantastic but, most importantly, we want you to be comfortable. Here are a few of our suggestions for looking your best on portrait day:

1) Coordinate in the same color family…this doesn’t mean each person has to wear the same colors. The outfits shown below are a perfect example of how to coordinate colors without looking too “matchy.”

2) Bold, bright colors look great in print so try to stay away from neutral colors if you can.

3) Layers add texture to a portrait. Try layering different fabrics and styles to make the portrait stand out.

4) Women – wear 3/4 sleeves or long sleeves in portraits.

5) Accessories are your friend! Chunky bracelets and interesting necklaces are a definite “DO” for women. Add in a scarf and/or hat and a pair of fab shoes and your portrait is sure to be smokin’ hot.

6) Little girls are always adorable in tutus and pettiskirts. We have several to choose from and they look great with leggings, a tank and a jean jacket.

7) You can’t go wrong with little boys in overalls. Or try a button up shirt with a great tee over it. Newsboy caps or beanies are also lots of fun.

The bottom line is you want your family to look great in your family portrait. This it totally doable without buying an entire wardrobe for everyone in your house. Check out what you’ve already got stashed away in the closet and try some different things. If you aren’t sure, feel free to bring several things and I’ll help you decide what looks best.

The H Family {Sneak Peak}

November 25, 2009

When brainstorming on a good location to take the H Family’s portraits, I immediately thought of this farm that I know so well. Boys always look great in a farm setting and there is lots of fun to be had. There is nothing better than happy boys for me to take pictures of. We had such a good time and these boys are super cute. I believe they might have been born to be on the cover of magazines. Just look at them!! Here are a few of my favorites from the session. Thanks so much H Family for letting me spend the morning having fun with you guys!

When you talk about adorable families, these guys are who you’re talking about. This family is the reason I love my job so much. I mean just look at those kids!! The cheeks on Little Miss S just makes me want to squeeze them. And Mr. O stole the show with his beautiful smile. Thanks Mom & Dad for letting me have such a great time with you guys. Here’s just a quick peak at a few that I’ve edited so far. So incredibly cute!!!

{The H Family}

August 13, 2009

I was super excited when I was asked to shoot the H Family’s portraits at Swan Lake Iris Garden’s in Sumter, SC. It turned out to be a beautiful location (aside from all of the goose and swan poo). Little C just turned one and she was full of energy. Talk about a work out!! She had me running all over the place. But we had a fantastic time and Mom had no problem making silly faces to get the smiles…even from Dad!! Thanks so much for letting me capture this great time in your lives. Here are a few of my faves!!

{The A Family}

July 30, 2009

I was so excited when Mrs. A let me know she wanted to do their first Family Portrait Session at Cheraw State Park. I hadn’t seen them since I did her Maternity Session last fall so I really couldn’t wait to see Baby E. I knew she would be as cute as a button having the adorable parents she has!! I was not disappointed!! She has the most amazing blue eyes ever and the camera loved her. You could definitely tell her parents love her to pieces…who wouldn’t?!? We had so much fun getting her to show off for me. I really wish I hadn’t been sick so I could have got me some hugs. Well, we are going to do another session at the beach this fall so I’m holding out until then:) Here are a few of my favorites from their session.

The Short Family Portraits

December 29, 2008

What a great way to spend an afternoon. The Short Family was one of the best families I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. They have a wonderful lake-front home where they chose to do their portraits. There was talk of rain, but we beat it and the portraits came out beautifully. Little Marissa stole the show with her charm and charisma. I could take photographs of her all day. The Shorts are a beautiful family and I hope I get the opportunity to work with them again.
