With the Month of October being recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation holds its Annual Fund Drive for six weeks starting in mid-September and ending in October.

President Ronald Reagan enacted Proclamation 5890 in October of 1988 to recognize that each year, approximately a million pregnancies in the United States alone end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn child. Reagan stated, “A national observance offers us the opportunity to increase our understanding of the great tragedy involved in the deaths of unborn or newborn babies. It also enables us to consider how, as individuals and communities, we can meet the needs of bereaved parents and family members… ” To read the full Proclamation signed by Reagan, CLICK HERE.

Ok, if you have never been to Charleston, I highly recommend it. I grew up there and went to college there so I’m really familiar with the place. But I haven’t been back to visit in many years. I decided that it was high time to take my children down there to see what it’s all about. After all, it is where I’m from. I was really excited about our trip but the kids weren’t so much. However, when we arrived in this beautiful city, their eyes lit up and their attitudes completely changed. We visited lots of historic sites and tourist attractions. But mostly we just wandered around and hung out together. It was a great weekend trip for me and the kids. And on the way home, my 13 year old (who thinks it’s completely uncool to smile) said he had a really good time with a big grin across his face. It was the greatest gift a mother could ask for.
